The owners of a Thomson tax preparation business have been named in a 43-count indictment.

A federal grand jury returned the indictment against Annie and Tremarcus Bailey of Bailey’s Tax Service accusing them of conspiracy to defraud the United States and 42 counts of assisting in the filing of false tax returns in McDuffie County between 2015 and 2019.

According to the indictment filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Augusta, information about tax credits for education expenses was false in the filings of 12 different people.

The total amount of fraud cost taxpayers more than $100,000, according to the indictment.
