Pacers come from behind to defeat Augusta, 8-7, at SRP Park

The USC Aiken Pacers (15-16) battled back from an early deficit Wednesday night to down the Augusta Jaguars (8-23) in the annual “Battle for the Paddle” rivalry game at SRP Park in North Augusta.

The Jaguars took an early lead by scoring 3 runs in the opening inning on 3 hits and a sacrifice fly, then added 2 more in the second frame when Parker Ingram homered with a runner on base. After 2 innings, Augusta led 5-1 but the Pacers scored twice in the third and added 4 more runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-5 lead.  Both teams scored once in the sixth inning and the Jaguars added their final run in the eighth to complete the scoring.

The Jaguars had 9 hits and one error on the night, while USC Aiken had 7 hits and 3 errors.

The Pacers’ Josh Sharp tied a USC Aiken record with his 10th triple of the season and added a home run while scoring 4 runs to lead the winning effort. Ingram led the Augusta hitting attack with his homer and 3 RBIs.

Lucas Highberger (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the Pacers while Elijah Durnell (1-1) took the loss for Augusta. Charles Herring Jr. closed out the game for Aiken to earn his first save of the season.

The Pacers will be back in action when they host Lander at 5 p.m. Friday, and Augusta begins a three game home series against North Georgia at 6 p.m. on Friday.
