An Augusta man who allegedly tried to illegally benefit from his disabled brother’s $11,000 life insurance policies and the notary who allegedly assisted him have been indicted.
The Richmond County grand jury returned an indictment Tuesday against John Willie Evans, 67, and Sophia M. Knight, 42, accusing them of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. Evans is also accused of exploitation of a disabled adult and forgery.
An investigator from the state’s insurance commission, Ryan Stilz, examined the alleged crime committed Oct. 3, 2018. According to a news release from the commission, Evans’ brother was left disabled after a home invasion.
