Missing a week of committee meetings due to Masters Week, the Augusta Commission returns to a full plate of business going for discussion and approval Tuesday.

The meeting starts at 2 p.m. Items going for approval on the commission’s agenda include:

  • Contract awards totaling $350,000 to CHA Consulting Inc. to design improvements for May Park and Boykin Road Park. Each was awarded $1.7 million by the state in federal American Rescue Plan Act grants two years ago and may be awarded additional funding.
  • A bid of $88,578 to Midwest Maintenance, Inc., to investigate leaks at Augusta Municipal Building.
  • Approving an addendum agreement with CPA firm Cherry Bekaert to provide grant management assistance to Augusta Housing and Community Development. It’s the fourth addendum since 2022 and produces no opinion or assurance of compliance. The commission voted April 1 to refund $6.5 million in rental assistance grants unspent by the department to the U.S. Treasury.
  • Approving an encroachment agreement with the Salvation Army for a new Kroc Center park, Ann Boardman Park.
  • Approving a $963,722 change order for the Dennis Road improvements project. During construction of the Transportation Investment Act project, engineers determined a water line needed replacing, bringing the project cost to $5 million, according to the agenda item.
  • Receiving as information an update on salary changes within the offices of the Richmond County Sheriff, Augusta Circuit District Attorney and Augusta Public Defender.
  • Approving the conversion of five vacant public defender positions from state employees to Augusta employees to create cost savings.
  • Approving the city’s petition to rezone 3301 Milledgeville Road for the owner to develop a community event center. The property is currently an event space for Studio 33, “where South Augusta gathers.”
  • Concurring with the Augusta Planning Commission to deny rezoning 11.22 acres at 1514 Goshen Circle for a townhome community of 72 units.
