Parole has been denied for Willie L. Johnson following an outcry from the public.
The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles reconsidered the May 2024 vote to grant a tentative clemency release to Willie L. Johnson, a convicted rapist, according to a press release from the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office. He will continue to serve five consecutive life sentences, plus 40 years at a Georgia penitentiary.
Johnson was convicted in 1986 of two counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, one count of aggravated sodomy, one count of attempted aggravated sodomy, two counts of armed robbery, and one count of burglary by a Columbia County jury.
“Johnson’s crime spree included attacking three women on separate days, during which he bound, gagged, violated, brutalized, raped, sodomized, burglarized and robbed victims, one of whom was four months pregnant at the time. The members of the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles are applauded for their decision, communicated to District Attorney Bobby L. Christine in a letter dated Sept. 18, 2024,” the press release said.
In July, Columbia County District Attorney Bobby Christine sent an open letter to the public asking them to write the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles asking them to reconsider the clemency release.
