Motorists who normally use the 13th Street bridge connecting Augusta and North Augusta will face a temporary lane closure starting Monday, Aug. 2.
A left-lane closure, northbound from Reynolds Street approaching the bridge will be in place starting at 9 a.m. and lasting until 4 p.m. It could be in place each weekday through August 9.
A Georgia Department of Transportation news release says the lane is being closed to allow a contractor to conduct soil surveys and bridge foundation investigations.
This is a preliminary step in advance of the replacement of the bridge.

GDOT is seeking citizen feedback on the project.
There is a website where you can view the plans and leave comments through August 13.
In addition to rebuilding the structure connecting two states, this GDOT proposal would improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity.
Once construction begins, the bridge will remain open but with just one lane of travel in each direction. GDOT has identified alternate routes to get around the project.
