Paving sections of Broad Street downtown begins this week on the closed section of Broad from 15th Street to St. Sebastian Way.

Weather permitting, the work is expected to take one week. The section is set to reopen Monday, when paving shifts to the next block.

The section of Broad from St. Sebastian Way to 13th Street will close to all traffic starting Monday. Detours will direct motorists around the closure.

As weather permits, work on this section is expected to continue for “several months,” according to a Monday city news release.

Ongoing streetscape work on Broad and surrounding downtown streets is funded through the Transportation Investment Act sales tax, the 1% tax area voters first approved in 2012.

In the 800 block of Broad, construction of a linear park honoring James Brown is underway. The statue of Brown was removed from the median to Augusta Museum of History and interior lane closures are in effect.
