A pedestrian is in stable condition after being struck by a sport utility vehicle Monday evening, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 6:05 p.m. on Columbia Road, near the Kroger in Martinez. According to the sheriff’s report, 24-year-old Jorge Mendez was standing on the shoulder of the road when he suddenly ran into traffic, directly into the path of an oncoming Ford Explorer. The vehicle’s front struck Mendez.
The report states that Mendez was determined to be at fault for the collision. Authorities also noted that Mendez did not speak English and his city of residence was not immediately known.
The driver of the 2000 Ford Explorer, 55-year-old Albert Miller of North Augusta, was uninjured.
