Pedestrian struck & killed by car while walking on Bobby Jones Expressway

An Augusta man was killed while walking on Bobby Jones Expressway in the middle of the night.

Garret Stroud, 36, of Chadwick Road, was struck by a car while in the roadway just after 3 a.m. Wednesday, authorities said. It happened on Interstate 520 at mile marker 14.

Stroud was struck and later pronounced dead at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday, Coroner Mark Bowen said. The driver stopped and reported the incident at the Sand Bar Ferry Road and Laney Walker Boulevard exit, authorities said.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is investigating this accident.
