The City of Augusta kicked off its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade shortly after 1 p.m., Saturday morning, with crowds of locals—many residents of the surrounding Bethlehem neighborhood—gathered along either side of James Brown Boulevard.

Mayor Garnett Johnson, the Augusta Commission and newly-minted Sheriff Gino Brantley led the procession, which took its yearly route from the Dyess Park community center to Wrightsboro Rd., by way of the roundabout intersecting the two with Twiggs Street.

The parade had originally been scheduled for Jan. 18, but had been postponed amid inclement weather.
