Photojournalism: ArtsCity 2021

Date: September 20, 2021

This past weekend, I attended the Arts in the Heart festival for the first time, despite living in the CSRA for the majority of my life. This year it was branded as Augusta Arts City Festival, “a mini-arts in the heart.” While I was there, I had the opportunity to meet several talented artists and try some amazing food.

Baruti Tucker Painting

Local artist, visual arts teacher, and Co-Founder/Owner of Humanitree House Baruti Tucker painting while listening to live music. He paints only using his hands, which he calls “Ahfingah.” To see more of his art, take some time to visit Humanitree House on Eighth Street.

Daniella Cull

Augusta artist Daniella Cull posing in front of one of her current works in progress. She loves warped figures and bright colors. Her passion for art also extends to makeup and music. More of her work can be found on Instagram @unholycowboy.

Jaki Mayo Van Dyke

Jaki Mayo Van Dyke, another local artist who frequently paints surreal portraits and also creates sculptures out of polymer clay. Her work and updates can be found on Instagram @fullmetaljacki.

A. C. Daniel

A. C. Daniel painting a scene of him tattooing himself. Daniel is an artist and tattoo apprentice who works for Anbu Art Collective, a tattoo studio located on Broad Street. Some of his fake skin work is on display at Salonica Red Door Gallery on Seventh Street. More of his work can be found on Instagram @a.c.sart.

New Foods

Besides the art, one of the biggest draws of the festival are the multicultural food vendors. Pictured is an attendee trying Thai food for the first time.
