The Augusta University Jaguars continued their winning ways Saturday defeating Belmont Abbey 106-77 at the Christenberry Fieldhouse in the first round of the NCAA Division II championship

Ja’Queze Kirby led the Jaguars with 25 points on the night.

Augusta Coach Dip Metress is a former head coach and player at Belmont Abbey. He coached the Crusaders during 1996-2004 and had an overall coaching record of 134-93. Saturday’s game was the first time Augusta University played against Belmont Abbey.

At the time, Metress was the Crusaders coach.

The Jaguars were the top seed in the playoff with Belmont Abbey seeded eighth.

The fifth-ranked Jaguars are now 29-3 overall and 18-0 on their home floor.

They advance to the next round of the playoffs and will face the winner of the Flagler-UNC Pembroke game at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
