More than 5,500 cases of Girl Scout cookies were delivered Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Columbia County Fairgrounds, where volunteers unloaded from the trucks, sorted, counted and divided into troop orders.

A few special events are planned in conjunction with the arrival of cookies.

Beginning Feb. 18 in honor of National Girl Scout cookie weekend, Farmhaus Burgers will be offering two different delicious shakes featuring Samoas and the new Adventureful cookies, according to a news release from Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia. Farmhaus officials are asking customers to vote on their favorite flavor.  BelAir donuts will also be offering special cookie-topped donuts at both of its locations.

A new event this year is Cookies and Cocktails from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Snelling Conference Center, 3165 Washington Rd.

“In conjunction with Goodwill Industries, and the Edgars Hospitality Group,  Girl Scouts will be hosting this tasty event with cocktails, appetizers and mini-desserts created by Edgars Grill Executive Chef, Frank Kassner, featuring a variety of different Girl Scout cookies. This event is limited to the first 200 people who register in advance,” the news release said.

Proceeds benefit Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia. Tickets are available at gshg.org/cookiesandcocktails.

Operation Cookies From Home provides an opportunity for the community to purchase cookies to be donated to military members and front line workers.  Individuals and businesses pay for the cookies and Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia will take care of the delivery. One local businessman and his wife have been purchasing 1,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to send overseas to deployed military members every year for the past seven years.
