City employees started working as early as 10 a.m. that morning to coordinate what became a robust bazaar of food vendors—including choice barbecue fixings by Shay’s Chicken & Seafood and Big Mama’s Soul Food of Augusta and pineapple drinks from Augusta Market staple The Crazy Piña—and amusements, such as a dunking booth, an inflatable waterslide and even a mechanical bull.

More than some 2,000 visitors crowded the community center’s grounds starting at 6 p.m., with Grovetown Public Safety corralling attendees around the water treatment plant on Lakeview Drive.

The fireworks display kicked off at 9 p.m.
