I’ve lived in Harlem, Ga., for about two years now, and it wasn’t until recently that I realized I never took the time to actually see what was around me. I had to make a stop by the city hall recently, and I noticed a few small things I’ve had a tendency to overlook.

Mayor’s Tribute

Right outside of Harlem City Hall is a small brick wall that serves as a tribute to the mayors of Harlem. It spans from 1870, the year Harlem was founded, to the present day.

City’s Clock

Next to the Mayor’s Tribute is a clock dedicated to the citizens of Harlem, contributed by former Mayor William C. Clary, Sr., who served 1922-1925 and 1928-1931.
Columbia Theatre

A few blocks past Harlem City Hall in downtown Harlem is the Columbia Theatre. The first movie theatre in Columbia County, it showed new movies between 1949 and 1963 until it was closed and used as a shopping area. In 2005, the City of Harlem purchased the theatre and began the restoration process. Towards the beginning of 2020, the theatre began offering free screenings of popular movies like Toy Story 4 as a community event.
