GRANITEVILLE – It was a close game in the Valley Friday until the Mustangs ran like the wild horses they are named after and blew out the game in the second half over the Aiken Hornets, winning by a score of 70-33.
Midland Valley’s quarterback TJ McElmurray scored three of the Mustangs’ touchdowns.
Late into the second quarter, Midland Valley was only up by eight points with four minutes left to go. After Aiken scored to bring the game to 28-20, Midland Valley returned the kickoff for a touchdown.
Aiken tried to close the gap with eight seconds to go in the first half, but the Mustangs would go into halftime ahead 42-26.
The Mustangs are 5-3 overall and 2-0 in region 4AAAA. They will play at South Aiken Oct. 21. The Hornets are 1-7 and 1-1 in 4AAAA. They will host Lexington Oct. 21.
