The Augusta GreenJackets began their home season Tuesday, April 19, with a come-from-behind win over the Fayetteville, N.C. Woodpeckers, 8-6.
Fayetteville quieted the strong SRP Park crowd in the second inning with a four-run inning as the North Carolina team drove in a pair with a two-run double and the next-up batter added two more runs with a homerun to make it 4-0 Woodpeckers.
The score would remain 4-0 until the fourth inning when the Augusta offense broke through for five runs courtesy of an RBI single. The game continued to be back and forth until the sixth inning when the GreenJackets tied thel game with a two-out, RBI single to bring the score to six apiece.
In the seventh, Augusta took the lead for good with a bases-loaded walk making it 7-6 GreenJackets. And added a single in the eighth inning.
The game ended with an 8-6 home victory for the season opener.
