Phinizy Swamp is located just a few minutes from downtown Augusta. Consisting of flood plain swamps and wetlands, the Phinizy Center and Nature Park is a beautiful place to take a walk and clear your head. The goal of the park is to protect the diverse flora and fauna that call the marshes home and to teach visitors about the importance of the wetlands.
Silo

When pulling into the visitor parking area off Lock & Dam Road, one of the first things you’ll see is a cluster of silos covered in poison ivy. According to park officials, the ivy is left there because it serves as an important source of food for migrating birds.
Cattail Trail

The cattail trail is found beyond the parking area. Flanked by cattails and bamboo and covered overhead by trees, it has a cozy feel as you walk towards Butler Creek.
Fauna

A pond slider and catfish swimming in the creek. No alligators this time, unfortunately.
William Bartram Rain Garden

Across from the Phinizy Campus is the William Bartram Rain Garden, a beautiful pond enclosed by grasses.
Canoe

Next to the silos is a pollinator garden with a canoe-turned-planter sitting nearby.
