The Sacred Heart Garden Festival was back this weekend after a two-year hiatus. Attendees could visit vendors both inside and outside Sacred Heart and shop for upscale garden tools and decorations, fine linens, pottery and a huge variety of herbs and other plants. Lecturers offer ideas for landscape design, foodscapes and topiaries. The butterfly garden was a particular colorful treat featuring plantings of red salvia and yellow-gold marigolds. By Saturday morning, all but two butterflies had escaped, but the garden itself was a treat to visit.
Following a stop at Sacred Heart, those who chose to include the garden tour in their day had six options, three in Summerville and three in Columbia County, including a majestic formal garden; an urban garden complete with chickens, rabbits and vegetable plantings; and a wildlife garden.
