The No. 1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs were victorious in the gridiron version of its rivalry with the South Carolina Gamecocks with a 24-14 win at Sanford Stadium on Saturday afternoon. But on Friday night at the 30th annual Border Bash, fans of both teams were winners.
A huge crowd converged on SRP Park to celebrate the annual affair that preludes one of the oldest rivalries in college football. Georgia and South Carolina first stepped on the the field in 1894 and played sporadically until 1992 when the Gamecocks joined the SEC. Since then, the two schools have played annually, with a total of 76 meetings between them.
But due to conference expansion which will add Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC for the 2024 season, Georgia-South Carolina will take a hiatus, at least for one season.
As for Friday night, it was all about the live music, vendors, food, bouncy houses and games for kids, along with just the general excitement that’s been a part of this rivalry for the last three decades.
The Augusta Press photographer Teon Scott was on hand to capture photos of the night’s festivities.
