Progress is moving forward to allow for a Pinnacle Bank at the Evans Towne Center area.

During the Columbia County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday night, commissioners approved a major PUD (Planned United Development) revision for 801 Ronald Reagan Drive and off Ronald Reagan Drive that would add bank as one of the businesses allowed at that location.

“This is a request to amend the PDU for the plaza area here,” said Deputy County Matt Schlachter. “Currently the PUD calls for that area to be a community of retail, office and residential uses. So, this will clarify and also allow for a bank to be built in this location.”

The location is between the Meybohm Building and Chili’s near the intersection of Ronald Reagan Drive and Evans Towne Boulevard.

Commissioners also approved a request to rezone 316 Baston Road from S-1 (Special) and R-3 (Single Family Residential) to S-1 (Special) to allow for Augusta Christian Schools to build a new elementary school. It would be a two-story, 42,000-60,000 square foot building.

“Our major concern with this is traffic. We don’t want to see Baston Road become a parking lot. We definitely don’t want to see kids running back and forth across Baston Road between two campuses,” Schlachter said.

The approval comes with some conditions, which are connection to county sewer is required, minor adjustment to the provided conceptual plan in order to address any Fire Marshal or Fire Department and a traffic control plan that prevents traffic from stopping and backing up on Baston Road.
