Pop-Up Augusta Has Golf-Themed Dinner Planned for April 8

Kigwana Cherry heard a common complaint after moving back to Augusta.

“People said ‘there’s nothing to do in Augusta,’ but I kept finding things,” said Cherry, who created Pop-Up Augusta to give people a unique food and beverage experience. A few tickets are still available for the April 8 pop-up event called Courses on the Course.

The experiences are designed for people who don’t mind surprises and like a little spontaneity. Guests purchase their tickets in advance, but they have no idea where the event will be held until 24 to 48 hours before it occurs.

Cherry started Pop-Up Augusta in 2017 and offered the first golf related pop-up event two years ago.

It was held at the 18th hole of the Augusta Municipal Golf Course, also known as the Patch. The wait staff dressed in caddie uniforms, and golf signage announced each course in the five-course meal.

The April 8 Courses on the Course will offer similar attention to detail. It will feature a five-course meal and entertainment.

Other pop-up events have included a speakeasy night at Le Chat Noir. The event took place the same night as another event. Cherry said guests were told to find the lady in the red dress who gave them the password to the secret room which actually served as a speakeasy in the 1920s. Dirty South Burlesque provided the entertainment.

Cherry said another speakeasy event will be held later this year.

Cocktails have been the focus on some of the events. A mimosa crawl has been a hit. Cherry said it will return in May as well as a Bloody Mary event and a bourbon-themed one. Brunchella 2021 is a 21 and older brunch event scheduled for July.

Space is limited with the pop-ups with between 15 and 20 tickets sold each time. Cherry said he wants to encourage people to get to know one another.

When Cherry started Pop-Up Augusta, he expected to reach a certain demographic. He said he thought his audience would be young professionals; instead, he’s reached a larger group.

“My demographic is 25 to 65,” he said. “And I love it.”
