Popeyes Chicken loses chance at A during health inspection

The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections on Jan. 13–17.

Worst scores in this week’s health inspection

This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 86 earned by a Popeyes Chicken, located at 2491 Tobacco Road, in Hephzibah.

During the inspection, the inspector noted observing food improperly labeled, which resulted in a four point deduction.

“Observed one container of chicken in the [walk-in-cooler] being held past discard date,” the report stated.

The inspector also noted witnessing food being improperly stored within the kitchen.

“Observed bucket of batter on floor of [walk-in-cooler],” the report stated. “Keep food at least six inches off the floor.”

Following the Popeyes Chicken inspection, the second lowest score of the week was an 88 given to a Krystal, located at 2537 Peach Orchard Road, in Augusta.

Throughout the inspection, the inspector noticed bacteria build-up in the ice maker and deducted four points to the facility’s score.

“Observed mold like substance in ice maker,” the report stated. “Stop use of ice maker and clean.”

The inspector also reported observing uncovered food being stored in the kitchen, which resulted in a four point reduction.

“Observed uncovered food in [walk-in-cooler],” the report stated. “Keep all food covered.”

Additionally, the inspector also witnessed food being stored on the floor, and a repair needed in the kitchen.

“Observed food stored on floor of [walk-in-freezer],” the report stated. “Observed observed the ceiling leaking in the kitchen.”

The third lowest score of the week was a score of 89 given to a Toritos Fresh Mix, located at 2503 Highway-88, in Augusta.

From the inspection, the inspector docked four points for noticing bacteria build up in kitchen equipment.

“Observed build up in ice maker,” the report stated.

The inspector also noted seeing chemicals being stored next to kitchen supplies, and food being incorrectly stored.

“Observed cleaning supplies stored on shelf next to coffee maker,” the report stated. “Observed container of food stored on the floor. Keep all food at least six inches off the floor.”
