The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, and two restaurants did receive failing scores from April 15-19.
Wifesaver- North Leg, 1510 N. Leg Road, Augusta received the lowest score with a score of 62. They also received the lowest score last week with a score of 66. Inspector’s comments included: “observed potentially hazardous (potato salad) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit” and “observed employee breading/flowering chicken, remove gloves, and place new gloves on before going to prepare plates at front without washing hands prior to.”

Other inspector’s comments included: “observed cheese stored uncovered in walk-in cooler in back of kitchen,” “observed brown build-up in ice machine with unknown tube from ice machine touching ice,” “observed several foods in walk-in cooler without proper labelling,” “observed butter with use by date of 4-15-24,” “observed hot shot spray stored with other cleaning supplies,” “observed employees wearing earrings, rings, bracelets on during food preparation,” “observed personal items (jacket) on or above food items in food dry storage area,” “observed scoops being stored in flour and sugar containers,” “observed wet nesting of stacked pans in dishwashing areas,” “observed dumpster left open when not in use,” “observed build-up on cords near fryer,” and “observed excess grease behind fryer area.”
The second lowest and other failing score was a 66, which was received by Bodega Ultima, 353 Highland Ave., Augusta. Inspector’s comments included: “observed chicken being stored over vegetables and fruits inside WIC and RIC,” “observed multiple uncovered food items in RIC and prep top cooler left open while not in use,” “observed TCS foods in RIC and prep top cooler over 41F,” “observed chemicals stored next to clean dishes and over food items,” “observed expired test strips,” and “observed food scattered on kitchen floor.”
Popeyes, 3209 Deans Bridge Road, Augusta got the third lowest score of 72. Inspector’s comments included: “observed no response procedures for vomiting and diarrhea events,” “observed expired coleslaw (4/16/24) in walk-in cooler,” “observed debris on food contact surfaces,” “observed cheese in prep top cooler at 44 degrees, coleslaw in walk-in cooler at 44 degrees, and cheese at 54 degrees in walk-in cooler,” “observed scoops left in flour,” “observed mops being stored in sink,” “observed ice buildup on inside of walk-in freezer.”
