As Jones Creek Golf Club gears up to reopen, Club Car and Cher Best of iHeart Media drew plenty of activity on the green, Monday afternoon.
Club Car partnered with Jones Creek and iHeart Media to host its second annual Women’s Golf Day at Jones Creek Practice Golf Club. Women’s Golf Day, founded in 2016 by the nonprofit organization that shares its namesake (WGD LLC), promotes empowerment of women and girls by introducing them to, and encouraging them in, the sport of golf, with various related activities and golf instruction.
Monday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Club Car hosted upwards of 200 women who registered to enjoy a day engaged with the sport.

“We’ve invited high school golf clubs, college golf clubs, just people in the local community,” said Chantel Daniels, human resources specialist with Club Car and a member of the committee that coordinated the local Women’s Golf Day. “It’s a way to draw everyone together from different backgrounds, different age groups, just to one spot… We all have the same love, and that’s the love of the game..”

Linked by a common objective to empower women and girls, Tuesday’s event entailed celebrating with Cher Best’s Sisters Only Club, a local organization devoted to the development of young girls’ potential via various programs, events — such as its upcoming summer camp — and volunteering.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to learn more about our organization, our core values and mission,” said Best. “ So it was a perfect marriage.”

Alongside practice rounds at the range, attendees had the opportunity to learn about the game at two golf clinics featuring, Oneida Castillo, instructor with the Ladies Professional Golfers Association (LPGA) and African American Golfers Hall of Famer; and Georgia Golf Hall of Famer Lauren Coble.

The event also served as a fundraiser for the Sister Only Club’s efforts. While registration for Golf Day was free, visitors could contribute via donations or paid practice rounds at the range.
“It gives our members, and women that support the organization, opportunity to come out and run the game of golf,” Best said. “Some of my members play golf, but not all of them play golf, and a lot of women that know us don’t play golf… We have a very diverse group of people out here today. So that’s why it was important for us to have a partnership.”
The Practice Club at Jones Creek powered by Toptracer is located at 487 Hammonds Ferry, in Evans.
