Press Play songwriter contest is open for entries

Date: May 03, 2022

Entries for the inaugural Press Play songwriter contest will be accepted through June 30.

The contest is open to Augusta area residents who have written original songs.

Songwriters should pick their best choice as only one entry per songwriter will be accepted. Songs must be free of profanity and slurs. Send us an MP3.

The winner must be able to play the song live.

After the entries are received, they will be placed on The Augusta Press website, where readers will be able to vote from July 1 through Aug. 16.

The writers of the top three vote-getting songs along with three critic’s picks will perform on the global stage at Arts In the Heart of Augusta Friday, Sept. 16.

Each of the six finalists will have a 20-minute set. The winner will receive a cash prize of $500, with $250 for second place and $100 for third.

Watch for updates in Steven Uhles’ Brand New Bag column that runs on the second and fourth Friday of each month.

Entries can be emailed to songwriter@theaugustapress.com.
