Prison term imposed for Augusta man who brutally beat woman

An Augusta man who beat the mother of his children while wearing brass knuckles was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

A Richmond County Superior Court jury on Wednesday, May 25, convicted Sir B. Coats, 37, of aggravated assault and two counts of misdemeanor cruelty to children for the Nov. 14, 2021 attack on his family.

Chief Judge Daniel J. Craig sentenced Coats to the prison term and an additional five years of probation once he is released.

According to court records, Coats 9-year-old daughter used a cell phone to record Coats threatening her mother with a knife before the beating. The assault also occurred in front of a second child.
