The proposed development of what may be a new Amazon distribution facility in south Augusta is underway, according to city records.
Augusta Planning shows that late last month Atlanta real estate developer JB2 Partners and engineering firm Kimley-Horn submitted plans for a new development that will take up some 46 of the 65 acres at 1475 Doug Barnard Pkwy, the former site of Meridian Brick. Eden Innovations, an Australian tech company known for its concrete additive EdenCrete, bought the property from Meridian in 2018.
“Project Azalea,” as the prospective development is called, is listed as a distribution facility, which corresponds with plans of a proposed 17,000 square foot Amazon facility at site.
A $300 million warehouse for Amazon is currently under construction in Niagra, N.Y., a project JB2 Partners brought to the small west New York town in 2022.
Project Azalea is currently under review by Richmond County’s various departments including Planning and Zoning, and is to remain under evaluation, as of the publishing of this article, for 41 days.
