A violent evening in Augusta’s Harrisburg neighborhood prompted an urgent public warning as law enforcement responded to multiple reports of gunfire involving teenagers.

At 8:37 p.m. Sunday, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) advised residents to stay indoors and others to avoid the area due to ongoing shootings. Authorities reported that shots had been fired in various parts of Harrisburg, with two individuals en route to the hospital and an unknown number of suspects on the loose.

Assisting agencies included the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Augusta University Police. Officers from multiple departments spread across the neighborhood in response to the evolving threat.

By 9:31 p.m., RCSO announced that the situation was under control, and five suspects were in custody in connection with the shootings. Deputies said they would maintain a presence in the area throughout the night and that additional details would be released later Sunday evening or Monday morning.

The shootings occurred in the Harrisburg area, which lies just west of downtown Augusta and includes part of the city’s medical district — home to major hospitals like Augusta University Medical Center and Piedmont Augusta.
