Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables confirmed that Kitchens died at his Beech Island home, and he was discovered early Tuesday. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine a cause of death.

Cpl. Kitchens was employed with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office since December 2007 and was promoted to corporal in December 2017, assigned to the Jail Division.

He was being honored online by those who knew him well, including Rolf Cramer.

“Rest easy Todd Kitchens! Man I just worked with you Sunday, thank you for all the laughs,” Cramer posted.

Cristina de l’Aigle posted that he was a great teacher and a great leader.

“I will be forever grateful for the sharing of your wisdom,” she wrote. “Everyone can learn from your legacy. It maybe your end of watch, but we will take you forever in our hearts and take it from here.”
