RCSO investigating body found by Augusta Canal

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a body of a deceased person that was found near Goodrich Street Extension and the Augusta Canal earlier on Saturday.

The CID investigators and Richmond County Coroner’s Office were called to the scene.

“The body was found on the bank near the canal. Due to the condition of the body, an autopsy has been scheduled as well as a positive ID will have to be made,” said RCSO Coroner Mark Bowen.

RCSO said it is an active investigation and no other information is available at this time.
