A Richmond County sheriff’s investigator was arrested over the weekend while driving drunk in his county-issued vehicle in Columbia County, authorities said.

Wesley Ward, 39, has since resigned his job following his arrest for DUI and failure to maintain lane. He was booked into the Columbia County Jail just after midnight Sunday.

RCSO officials placed him on administrative leave until an internal investigation could be completed, but he resigned Sunday, according to media reports. Investigator Ward started at the agency in June 2017 and rose to become investigator in 2019.
