While Richmond County students are set to return to school on Wednesday, Oct. 16, there will be some changes to bus routes.
According to a press release from the school system, bus drivers worked over the weekend to complete trial runs of routes to see if they were safe for students. However, due to debris removal throughout the county, some of the neighborhoods and roads are impassible for buses. Because of this, there will be some changes to bus stop locations and there will be delays with pick-up and drop-off times.
“We encourage our families to drive their children to school, if possible, as the City of Augusta continues to clear debris along our bus routes,” the press release said. “For those who will use bus transportation, we will update our Hurricane Helene landing page at rcboe.org/hurricanehelene with alternative bus stop locations starting Tuesday, Oct. 15. The RCSS Transportation hotline is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 706-796-4777 for questions and concerns.”
The school system is expecting there to be car and bus transportation delays as people navigate the routes over the next week.
“We understand this is an inconvenience, and we appreciate our families’ patience as we all work to safely transport our students,” the district said.
