Redfield is formally charged in Arbrie Anthony murder case

Antoine Redfield

Date: January 21, 2022

The Augusta man accused of murder in the fatal shooting of 8-year-old Arbrie Anthony made his first appearance before a judge Friday, Jan. 21.

Antoine Redfield, 21, appeared by videoconference before Richmond County Magistrate Judge Le’Joi Williamson, who read the charge listed in the warrant filed against Redfield. Williamson also ensured he understood his rights.

Arbrie was shot in the head Jan. 8 in the yard of her Dogwood Terrance home on Second Avenue. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office reported the shots were fired from a passing vehicle into the yard where Arbrie. She and other children were petting a horse that had been brought to the public housing complex to visit with them.

Because of the charge Redfield faces, Williamson could not address bond Friday.

Redfield was released from jail in November 2021 after murder and other charges against him were dismissed on a motion from the district attorney’s office. He had been held without bond since the Dec. 7, 2019, shootout in the parking lot of the Private I Sports and Entertainment Complex.

Two men – Charles E. Lawson III, 28, and JaBrie S. Dominguez, 23 – were killed in that shootout. Charges against Redfield and Charvez Lawson, 29, were dropped because their mutual claims of self-defense couldn’t be disproven, according to the motion filed to dismiss the charges.
