Redistricting Meetings Winding Down in South Carolina

Members of the South Carolina House Redistricting Ad Hoc Committee have been crisscrossing the state asking residents what they want out of redistricting, which takes place every 10 years. There will be a meeting in Aiken Sept. 20 from 6-8 p.m.

The meeting will be at the Aiken Technical College Amphitheater.

The meetings started Sept. 8 in Myrtle Beach. The most recent was Sept. 16 in Bluffton.

Three meetings will follow including the final two live sessions. One will be Sept. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Greenwood at Greenwood Piedmont Tech. That will be followed by one in Orangeburg on Sept. 22. It will be in the Orangeburg Tech Roquemore Auditorium from 6 to 8 p.m.

In-person and written testimony will be accepted at the in person session. Written testimony may be submitted in paper form or by email to redistricting@schouse.gov.

The final meeting will be a virtual session. It will be held Oct. 4 in Columbia from 4:30 to 8 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.

The Ad Hoc Committee, chaired by Representative Chris Murphy (R-Dorchester) is responsible for re-drawing South Carolina House districts.

The Senate Judiciary Committee’s Redistricting Subcommittee, chaired by state Sen. Luke Rankin (R-Horry), also held 10 meetings across the state. The last one was in Aiken. This subcommittee is responsible for redrawing Congressional districts and state senate districts.

Dana Lynn McIntyre is an award-winning reporter who began working in radio news in her hometown of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She also worked as a television news photographer for a station in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Dana moved to Savannah, Ga. in 1984 to join the news team at WIXV-FM/I95 Radio. In early 1986, WBBQ Radio in Augusta invited her to interview for a position with the news department. Within three weeks, Dana was living in Olde Town and working at a legendary radio station. Dana left WBBQ in 1996 to join WJBF NewsChannel 6 as assignment manager. In 1998 she became a reporter/anchor covering law enforcement, crime and courts as well as witnessing two executions, one in Georgia, the other in South Carolina. She also spent time as an assignment manager-editor in Atlanta, metro New York City, and back in Augusta at WRDW Television. Dana joined The Augusta Press team in April 2021. Among Dana’s awards from the Georgia Associated Press Broadcasters Association are for Excellence in General Assignment Reporting, Spot News and Specialized Reporting. Dana also received an award for Public Service Reporting from the West Augusta Rotary Club for a story with actor LeVar Burton on his PBS Television show “Reading Rainbow."
