Report: Evans daycare worker knocks 3-year-old girl in face with shoes

Date: January 20, 2023

A former Evans daycare teacher has been arrested for allegedly knocking a 3-year-old girl in the face with a pair of shoes, authorities said.

Teacher Angela Harris, 50, was fired as a teacher at Discovery Zone on Nov. 1 after confessing to spanking a child, but a video shows her actions toward several students were also “aggressive.” Only the parent of the girl hit in the face with shoes wanted to press charges.

A video shows Harris taking a blanket from a child, grabbing their arm and pulling them across the room at the daycare on William Smith Boulevard.

“In another portion of the video, Angela hits a child in the butt,” a report says. “Later, she is walking with a chair, and a child gets in her way. She used the chair to push the child out of the way. She then takes the shoes and shoved them in (the girl’s) face seemingly unprovoked.”

All of the incidents on video happened within an hour. A sheriff’s report filed in November says it was “unknown” how many similar incidents had occurred that day or in previous weeks.

An investigation into the case led to a simple battery charge against Harris, who resides in Martinez. She was arrested Jan. 5 and released on bond.
