Health screenings, job information and food and clothing giveaways are planned during Project Life Augusta’s Community Resource Fair March 18.
“I think there are over 30 organizations participating now,” said Erik Sowder, Project Life Augusta’s director about the event which will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center at 1758 Gordon Hwy.
Sowder said the number of organizations keeps rising, and the groups represent a wide array of programs and services.
Health care professionals will do blood pressure checks and a basic health screening, he said. Barney’s Pharmacy has donated some health care supplies.

Job training programs will be available to talk about their programs, and Sowder said someone would be on hand to talk about a Georgia Medicaid program designed to provide income for family care givers.
Representatives from the Richmond County school’s success center program as well as the CTAE (Career, Technical and Agricultural Education) program will be available as well.
Sowder said he’s excited about the event, but he’s more excited about the partnerships that he hopes will come from it.
“This should help our organization,” he said. “We’ll be able to help people more effectively.”
Project Life Augusta opened in its Gordon Highway location two years ago. Prior to that it was an outreach of New Life Church. The organization provides free food and clothing to families.

In 2020, Project Life served more than 3,000 people and regularly provides food and clothing to about 400 families in the three days a week it is open.
By networking with the other organizations, Sowder said he will know where to refer people when they need something Project Life Augusta doesn’t have access to.
Other organizations participating in the resource fair are the Augusta Coalition for Addiction Recovery Awareness, the Boys and Girls Clubs, CSL Plasma, the Georgia Department of Labor, Augusta’s VET Center for Readjustment Counseling and Resources, Forces United, Golden Harvest Food Bank, the United Way of the CSRA, the VA Medical Center and Goodwill Job Connections.
