RHS opens new Women and Children’s Health Center in Aiken

Rural Health Services, Inc. unveiled its new healthcare facility with ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 6

The Emanuel-McClain Women and Children’s Health Center provides healthcare services for to women and children, addressing their healthcare needs across all stages of life. RHS Chief Executive Officer Carolyn Emanuel-McClain, the center’s namesake, said the expanded space at the facility will accommodate more patients.

“Given the increased demand for healthcare services in Aiken and surrounding areas, our facilities were quickly running out of space,” McClain said. “With the establishment of this new health center, we can broaden our services to meet the healthcare needs of women and children in our area.”

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, who was one of the three gold sponsors, presented a $5,000 donation to fund facility equipment expenses. Aiken County Mayor Teddy Milner also proclaimed Aug. 4-10 as “National Health Center Week.”

“This occasion is a testament to our collective dedication to enhancing healthcare for the most vulnerable members of the Aiken community,” said Gigi Lewis, RHS chief operations Officer. “With the planning and construction, this facility has been years in the making, and it’s been an exciting accomplishment for the staff and Board to watch the patients walk through the front doors to receive services.”

The 19,645 square feet facility is equipped to accommodate, the health center is fully equipped to accommodate all RHS women’s health and pediatric patients. Patients will benefit from cutting-edge technology, including 3D mammography, ultrasound suite, and advanced testing facilities. The facility will also have a diaper room, which will have diapers, wipes, formula, children’s clothing, feminine products, and other resources available to families in need.

“We are providing a nurturing environment for families, mothers, and children to thrive,” McClain said. “As the ribbon was cut, it symbolized not just our doors opening but the creation of new opportunities for a healthier and brighter future.”
