Teen charged with murder in Friday shooting

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged Darontaye Cummings, 17, with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of an article with altered identification.  

Further investigation revealed the second subject that was in custody was determined to have no involvement and released. The booking photo is not available and no further information will be released at this time.

Zayquantez Jones, 17, of the 1600 block of Goshen Road, was shot at least one time Friday, according to an email from Mark Bowen, Richmond County coroner. He was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m.

One person is dead after a Friday morning shooting.

Richmond County deputies were dispatched to the Smart Grocery Store, 3221 Wrightsboro Rd., at 11:23 a.m. where they found one male victim who’d been shot at least once.

“The victim was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Investigators have two subjects in custody at this time,” said an email from Richmond County Sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb Lee.

Richmond County law enforcement authorities confirmed a shooting occurred Friday on 3200 block of Wrightsboro Road.

“Deputies were dispatched to this address at 11:23 a.m. in reference to gun shots with one victim,” according to an email from Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Caleb Lee.

According to a witness, one person was transported by EMS and the condition of the victim is unknown at this time.
