Friday night lights will still shine for most Richmond County School System high school football teams this week, despite inclement weather from Hurricane Helene impacting much of the Augusta area.

RCSS athletic director Scott McClintock confirmed via text message Thursday afternoon that all games scheduled for Friday night will go on with one exception and one venue change.

The Laney at Thomson game has been rescheduled to Friday October 18 at 7:30 p.m., McClintock said. The Laney football team’s X account also posted the same information Thursday afternoon.

As for the Burke County at Glenn Hills game, it will go on as scheduled, but will be moved to Butler High School “due to field conditions,” McClintock said.

Glenn Hills’ football stadium has natural grass while Butler has a turf playing surface that’s more sturdy against rain-soaked conditions.

All other area games, as of Thursday evening, are expected to continue as scheduled.
