The Richmond County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate that occurred at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on Friday night.

Patrick Logan, 51, of Grovetown, was pronounced dead at 8:40 p.m. Friday, Coroner Mark Bowen said in a press release. The coroner says the death appears to be a natural death, but an autopsy is scheduled. The sheriff’s office also asked the GBI to investigate the death.

Logan collapsed in a cell in the booking area shortly after being returned from the hospital. He was initially arrested Jan. 6 and had been taken to the hospital repeatedly for various medical issues, authorities said.

The inmate’s Jan. 6 arrest was for an order to show cause in Superior Court, which usually means he violated conditions of an earlier sentence. He has previous charges for criminal damage to property, DUI and obstruction in Richmond County.

Logan was also accused of domestic violence against his elderly father Dec. 2 in Martinez. The victim, Jimmie Lybrand, 74, said his son pushed him against the wall in the hallway because he asked him not to smoke in his house.
