Richmond County jailer arrested for bringing in contraband to inmates

A Richmond County deputy jailer was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly bringing in contraband, authorities said.

Deputy Jermaine Rockett, 39, was arrested and fired after the sheriff’s office investigated allegations that he was bringing in prohibited items to inmates, according to a press release. The sheriff’s office did not confirm that the items were cell phones.

Rockett has been charged with violation of oath of office and items prohibited for possession by inmates.

Deputy Rockett began his employment with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 18, 2021 and was assigned to the Transportation Division at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
