In partnership with Georgia Power and the CSRA Regional Commission Worksource Georgia, the Richmond County School System will be offering a diploma completion program in the new year.

Only designed for those who are current residents and former students of the county, eligible participants for the Back on Track Credit Recovery program must be at least 19-years-old and need at most seven credits to complete their diploma.

“The program makes it possible for eligible individuals to earn a genuine Richmond County high school diploma, however, it does take sincere dedication due to the reality of it’s self paced with the guidance of teachers,” said Board of Education President Charlie Hannah. “Because it’s such a good opportunity for many former students many people have questioned the possibility of increasing the capacity for accepting more people into the program.”

Individuals chosen will be invited to attend an orientation on Wednesday, Jan. 18, and classes will be held Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Tubman Education Center.

With attendance required, students will complete self-paced courses, and teachers will be present for each class to assist attendees through the material.

“I am sure that as the program matures and funding becomes available, few will be opposed to accepting more students,” said Hannah. “For now the space is limited. However, Back on Track is another great service being provided to the citizens of Richmond County.”
