The Richmond County School System will host a job fair to recruit new employees, next Wednesday, at the district’s central office downtown. Recruiters and hiring managers will be on-site conducting interviews, at what will be the school system’s sixth “Walk-in Wednesday” fair this year.
“We are looking for some talented and dedicated individuals to join our high-performing workforce to support the educational offerings and resources required to educate more than 30,000 students,” said Cecil Clark, the school district’s chief human resources officer. “Our employees are eligible for excellent benefits, and we offer professional development and a collaborative work environment.”
Director of Human Resources Melissa Shepard said the school system hopes to fill approximately 170 roles, half of which are teaching positions. The district is also hiring custodians, bus drivers, clerical workers, lunchroom workers and paraprofessionals.
Weekend job fairs have a greater turnout than the Walk-in Wednesdays, she said. The expo hosted at Westside High School on Saturday, June 10 yielded more than 120 participants.
“Walk-in Wednesday is during the workday, so you’re not going to have as many people come in,” said Shepard, who noted that data on the number of hires from the fairs wouldn’t be available until August. “We average around 45 or 50 people.”
While the larger Saturday events tend to bring more people, both sets of fairs tend to draw diverse crowds of jobseekers.
“We’ve had an overall blend. We’ve seen locals, we’ve seen people from out of town,” Shepard said. “We would have more of a diverse group on Saturday, but for Wednesdays we have a little bit of both.”
Shepard advises applicants to bring their resumes, but that even those without one can be interviewed on the spot.
The Walk-In Wednesday job fair will be held on Wednesday, July 12 in the Richmond County School District office at 864 Broad St., from 9 a.m. – noon. For a complete list of job openings, visit www.rcboe.info/Work4RCSS.
