The Richmond County School System Board of Education approved an estimated 18.33 roll back millage rate during a regular board meeting on May 20.

The millage rate is what homeowners pay in taxes on their property; each mill represents one dollar for every one thousand dollars in property value.

A roll back rate is the millage rate the school system would adopt this year to collect the same amount of property tax revenue collected last year.

This estimated rate, which is the same rate as in 2024, was discussed previously by board members during a work session several days earlier

“In working with [The Augusta Richmond County Tax Assessors] office, based on the current data that they have, they feel that the tax digest is going to be about the same, maybe, you know, 2% increase,” said Larry Fletcher, attorney for the Richmond County Board of Education. “So it’s their opinion that the board can use last year’s estimated rate of 18.33 as the estimated rate for this year.”

The board approved a formal resolution of the estimated rate during the May 20 meeting. The rate will be printed on a tax notice that is set to be mailed out on June 20.
