Richmond County School System clearing out with another warehouse sale

The Richmond County School System will be hosting another warehouse sale on Saturday.

The district held a similar sale in April, offering surplus items from school closets and classrooms throughout the county. Facilities services director Benton Starks noted then that the district doesn’t hold these sales as often as they used to, but pending renovation projects spurred the district to try to get rid of excess items as soon as possible.

The last sale boasted a wide array of odds and ends, such as old electronics and appliances. Three months later, the school system is still trying to declutter and make room for renovations, Starks said.

“There’ll be a lot of furniture items, desk chairs, that kind of thing,” said Starks about what the upcoming sale will have available. “A little less of a diverse assortment than the first time.”

Although there’s enough bric-a-brac and furnishings to sell, the turnout for the last sale exceeded expectations. Starks estimates more than 400 people showed up to the warehouse in April.

As with the previous effort, this warehouse sale will operate on a first come, first serve basis. All sales are final, buyers must accept immediate delivery or remove what they’ve bought the same day, and all purchases are cash only.

A major difference from April’s sale is that the June sale will be limited to a single warehouse, the one nearest the gate after entering the property, rather than two.

“That got to be a logistics nightmare,” said Starks. “So we’re going to confine it to the one that’s going to have the major renovation. We’re going to just stick to trying to clear as much out of that one as we can.”

The Richmond County School System Warehouse Sale will be on Saturday, June 10, from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at 1752 Lumpkin Rd.
