The Richmond County School System (RCSS) is offering free meals to children 18 years old and younger at over a dozen locations throughout the district this summer.

The program, which will run until June 27, will provide both breakfast and lunch at participating schools and community sites, according to a press release from RCSS.

Meals will be served on-site only, with most locations open Monday through Friday. A few sites will operate Monday through Thursday, and the program will be closed on June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.

“This program meets a real need in our communities. Approximately one in five children in Georgia are food insecure, meaning they have limited or uncertain access to safe and nutritious food,” Director of Nutrition Services Cathy Johnson said. “The summer meals program helps ensure that children stay healthy during the summer and return to school ready to learn.”

The program’s initiative is part of the district’s ongoing efforts to support families in the community and ensure that children continue to have access to healthy meals even when school is not in session, according to a press release from RCSS.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit the RCSS Nutrition Services website at www.rcboe.org/summermeals for specific dates, times and participating locations.
