Date: September 02, 2023

Richmond County School System has recently announced that all four magnet schools are near the top of national and statewide education rankings, as reported in the latest released U.S. News and World Report on Aug. 28.

Ranked third out of more than 400 state schools, Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School earned a top spot on the “2023-2024 Best Georgia High Schools” list, and is being recognized as one of the “best magnet schools in the United States”  by placing No. 47 out of nearly 900 magnet schools from across the country.

A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School, C.T. Walker Traditional Magnet School and Richmond County Technical Career Magnet (RCTCM) School also earned high status in several state rankings.

“We are immensely proud of our students, educators, and staff who are making waves on regional and national stages for advancing student achievement,” said Richmond County’s Superintendent of Schools, Kenneth Bradshaw.

Based on collected data from the 2020-2021 academic year, awarded rankings took into account a score that calculated college readiness, advanced placement exam scores, state standardized test scores, underserved student performance and graduation rates.

A.R. Johnson also joins Davidson on the “Best Georgia High Schools” list at No. 24 in the state, and RCTCM earned a No. 56 ranking.

According to the U.S. News and World Report’s website, 33% of RCTCM students took at least one AP exam, but only 7% passed at least one AP exam; while 78% of students at Davidson took at least one AP exam, only 58% passed at least one AP exam.

Joining Davidson on the “Best Georgia High Schools” list, A.R. Johnson was ranked as No. 24 in the state, while RCTCM earned No. 56.

Comparatively to Davidson and RCTCM, Johnson students reported that 66% took at least one AP exam, and 28% passed at least one AP exam.

C.T. Walker, which was ranked based on serving kindergarten through eighth grade students, was awarded the No.24 spot out of 1,245 Georgia elementary schools, and No. 50 out of 551 middle schools in the state, stated a press release from the Richmond County School System.
