Richmond County School System Awarded nearly $1M in GaDOE SUCCESS Grants
The Georgia Department of Education announced Oct. 6 that the Richmond County School System will receive five grant awards totaling $999,865 to support school improvement, according to a press release from the RCSS.
“Our schools and students will be the biggest beneficiaries of the programs these funds will make available,” said Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw, RCSS superintendent. “We are using these funds to focus on reading comprehension, progressive reading and math skills to help our students succeed.”

The school system is also using the grant funds to support training for the special education department, behavioral coaches and instructional specialists.
“Our team saw this grant opportunity and knew that it would add additional support resources for instruction, special education and classroom management,” said Dr. Malinda Cobb, associate superintendent for academic services. “These resources will further advance the work our teachers are doing for personalized learning and help our students who need additional resources access them.”

Details of the five grant awards are as follows:
Grant 1 – $224,000 – Awarded to purchase 95% Group Inc. to support development of reading content knowledge and skills. Professional Learning will be provided for teachers to implement the reading programming.
Schools: Terrace Manor Elementary School, W.S. Hornsby Elementary School, Wilkinson-Gardens Elementary School, Diamond Lakes Elementary School, Goshen Elementary School, Tobacco Road Elementary School and Glenn Hills Middle School
Grant 2 – $200,000 – Awarded to purchase Moving with Math/Connections Math to develop math content knowledge and skills. Professional Learning will be provided for teachers to implement the math programming.
Schools: CSI Schools – Glenn Hills High School, T.W. Josey High School, Murphey Middle School, Terrace Manor Elementary School, W.S. Hornsby Elementary School, W.S. Hornsby Middle School and Wilkinson Gardens Elementary School
CSI-Promise Schools – Butler High School, Hephzibah High School, Glenn Hills Middle School, Hephzibah Middle School, Pine Hill Middle School, Barton Chapel Elementary School, Copeland Elementary School and Glenn Hills Elementary School
TSI Schools – Academy of Richmond County High School, Lucy C. Laney High School, Diamond Lakes Elementary School, Goshen Elementary School and Tobacco Road Elementary School
Grant 3 – $116,915 – The Special Education Department will receive training and coaching sessions for Corrective Reading and Reading Mastery reading interventions. Behavior Coach and Instructional Specialist Observation and specialized training will also be provided.
Schools: W.S. Hornsby Elementary School, W.S. Hornsby Middle School, Murphey Middle School, Terrace Manor Elementary School and Wilkinson Gardens Elementary School

Grant 4 – $234,950 – Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) includes evidence-based interventions and screenings that provide different levels of support to maximize student achievement and decrease behavior problems. The Student Success Platform database that assists in MTSS will be purchased using grant funds. Professional Learning to support implementation will be provided.
