In a step toward strengthening community policing and boosting officer visibility, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has added two newly refurbished golf carts to its downtown patrol fleet.

The upgrades were made possible through a generous donation from E-Z-GO, a long-time partner in local public safety efforts, according to a press release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Originally manufactured in 2007, the golf carts have been completely remodeled to meet 2025 standards. E-Z-GO handled all upgrades at no cost to the Sheriff’s Office, delivering modernized vehicles that are now ready to serve downtown Augusta.

The electric carts will be operated by Community Safety Officers in the downtown district.

With increased mobility and accessibility, the carts are expected to enhance officer interaction with residents, business owners and visitors, while allowing for quicker response in pedestrian-heavy areas, according to a press release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

“These updated carts will help strengthen our efforts downtown and serve as another tool to bring our deputies closer to the community,” said Sheriff Eugene Brantley. “We are incredibly thankful for E-Z-GO’s continued support of public safety and community engagement. Partnerships like these allow us to serve better, safer and smarter.”

The initiative reflects the Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing dedication to building strong community and corporate partnerships, according to a press release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

The donation also highlights how public-private partnerships can support innovative solutions for public safety challenges while reinforcing community trust and visibility.

“The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to building meaningful community and corporate partnerships that align with its mission of proactive policing and public service,” stated a press release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
